Interior designer Marika Meyer infused a Bethesda, Maryland, home with sophistication and color, centering the design around the owners’ love for aubergine.

A cozy sitting area with two light gray armchairs and a window seat, adorned with various patterned cushions. The background features purple built-in bookshelves filled with colorful books, decorative vases, and art objects. A marble coffee table in front holds books and a flower arrangement, with a window showing green trees outside.

Referred by both the builder and a client, Meyer embraced the opportunity to create a cohesive yet vibrant home. She used Farrow & Ball’s Pelt in high-gloss for the library, complemented by plum wallpaper on the ceiling, ensuring a rich and inviting ambiance. To maintain balance, she introduced blue tones throughout the main floor, creating a seamless flow between rooms without rigidly defining them by color. Throughout, she selected quality, long-lasting furnishings that could withstand daily use. The result is a home that balances playfulness and sophistication, proving that vibrant color can be both stylish and practical for families.
