This project involved a full gut renovation and addition designed to support a young, growing family, balancing bold aesthetics with everyday function. Reflecting the clients’ love of color, pattern, and art, the design includes a dramatic, color-drenched dining room relocated to the former living space, while surrounding areas remain light and fresh. With three children, four cats, and two dogs, durability was key, with materials selected to stand up to heavy use without sacrificing a maximalist sensibility. The former kitchen was reimagined as a flexible mudroom and office, complete with auxiliary refrigeration and laundry for daily life and large-scale entertaining. Personal touches—like the thoughtful incorporation of pandas in collaboration with one of the children—add warmth and individuality throughout.
